NST Sponsored tC Makes History Again

Jackson-Dawson and Scion Achieve the Unthinkable by Shortly Leading the Race inPro Debut at Mid-Ohio.

Equally Impressive is a Near Top 10 Finish, as Team grabs 14th Out of Fieldof Almost 50

TORRANCE, Calif. - Dan Gardner and the Jackson-Dawson team yesterday madehistory for Scion in the ranks of professional road racing. The tC sportscoupe ran in the top ten for much of the race at Mid-Ohio in Grand-Am'shighly-competitive KONI Challenge Street Tuner class. This is a class wherethe top 20 cars are often less than a second apart for lap times. In theend, the team would finish an impressive 14th out of almost 50.

The team briefly put the Scion at the head of the pack, as many of theleaders came in for a pit stop. What wasn't so brief, however, was the factthat the car ran in the top 10 for much of the race, battling with seasonpoints leaders Eric Curran and Jamie Holtom in the Georgian Bay Cobalt SS.

"What can you say? Being the first at anything in racing is special," saiddriver and team manager, Gardner. "But being the first to actually achieveso much the first time out is beyond the ability of words to describe. OurScion was rock solid reliable. It takes more than that to be successful atthis high of a level, so that's just the start. But then to prove to theworld that Scion is ready, that Scion is here, that Scion is now.well that'sa feeling none of us will ever forget."

A recent decision to put veteran pro driver Craig Stanton in the car withGardner made all the difference in the world, as Stanton drove strong, andproved to be a force with which to be reckoned. And at Mid-Ohio, rain, morespecifically thunderstorms, would prove to be a force to be reckoned with as well..

When the clouds moved in, and the sky saturated with an eerie gray-black,the team got their rain tires ready, but they knew they couldn't do a tireswap until the track got sufficiently wet. It wasn't long before thunderwas booming and lighting was illuminating the sky like old flash bulbs. Then the rain poured down, and the team finally had to bring the car in,lest they be helpless to fight against cars that had already done the tirechange.

When Stanton and the Scion got back on track, it wouldn't be long beforethey found themselves battling it out amongst the top 10 at the front of thepack.this, after starting from 20th position when the green flag dropped. The team knew they would still have to do a driver change, which would becostly since the other teams had already completed theirs.

The strategy was to try to pit under yellow to give the team a fightingchance at not losing any positions. The yellow wouldn't come though, andStanton came in to hand the reigns over to Gardner. The driver change wentoff without a hitch, and Gardner zoomed out onto track. The team wouldmanage to hold onto 14th as Gardner crossed the finish line, taking Scioninto the pages of history.

"To achieve this much at this level excites all of us here at Scion," saidSteve Hatanaka, Scion auto shows and special events manager. "The rest ofthe world can't help but take notice of what we already know.that Scion is aperformance force that has to be taken seriously."

Over the last six months, Chuck Wade and Marty Schwerter at ToyotaMotorsports have been hard at work preparing the car along with Gardner.Central to the prep work and development has been Schwerter, who is nostranger to preparing the tC for road racing. Schwerter is the manresponsible for putting together the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach ProCelebrity cars. The work and experience clearly paid off for the team, asthey suffered not one hiccup during the entire race weekend.

"I had a chance to visit Toyota Motorsports recently," said BGB teammanager, John Tecce. "Marty, Chuck and the gang do fantastic work. It'sexactly the kind of thing you need to field a successful entry in proracing."

Toyota Racing Development (TRD) made great contributions to the team as wellwith the support of the supercharger system along with a few other bits andpieces. The blower is what allows the tC to produce the power to becompetitive at this level.

"When we designed the supercharger, we knew it would give the tC a big shotin the arm powerwise, but we also needed it to be fantastically reliable,"said Gary Boler, TRD business operations manager. "Proving our partsperformance and durability in Grand-Am with the JD team is just furthertestament to the quality that goes into every part and accessory that leavesour door."

Drivers Gardner and Stanton, along with the entire team, put together astring of milestones for Scion which won't soon be forgotten. They include:

. First Scion to compete in professional road racing
. First Scion to finish a pro race
. First Scion to climb into the top 10 during a pro race
. First Scion to lead a pro race
. First Scion to finish a pro race in top third of the field

The tC also managed to turn lap times during the middle of the race in therain that were on par with the race-winning Subaru.all while have two lessdrive wheels to provide traction.

"It's a great car and a great program," said Stanton. "I'm happy I had theopportunity to drive for the team. Scion makes some great products, and thetC really is impressive. Any car that can be setup to compete at this levelsays great things about its general underpinnings."

The race will be broadcast on SPEED in less than a week this comingSaturday, June 28 at 2 p.m. ET. For local listings please seewww.speedtv.com. A photo and brief pre-race write up can be viewed athttp://www.grand-am.com/koni/news/index.cfm?cid=17542. PRO/AM Drift Series and Championship 2008

The following was take from www.ziptied.com ...

From the USDrift/ LookoutDrift Forum.....With PRO/AM getting ready to kick off it's third year, and this year being quite a bit different than the previous two, I've decided to post up a sneak peak at the changes, format, scheduling, etc... unofficially so you guys can get an idea of how it's going to work and plan accordingly before the PRO/AM site is complete and it's all officially announced. It's currently being updated as we speak and will hopefully launch in the next week or so (fingers crossed).

Format:Ok, this year the biggest and most noticeable change is that we are going to split the country vertically along the Mississippi River and create 2 divisions, East and West. There will be no more regional series run in the North, South, East, and West. Too many events, too many organizations, and too much confusion among all parties involved. It was a great idea on paper and in a perfect world may have worked, but hey this is America, so we'll just scrap it and try something else until we get it right. So here's version 2.0, the newly created East and West Divisions that will operate similar to how football and baseball have the AFC/NFC and NL/AL (respectively). Drift Association will organize events in the West and USDrift will organize events in the East. Other organizations are still participating in the PRO/AM, however they will work with USDrift and Drift Association for the events they host. With that being said, please visit the PRO/AM website first for all your event information (once it's updated), and if you still have questions then contact either USDrift or Drift Association depending on what division you are participating in to ensure the event you are attending is indeed a qualified event. Other organizations not previously associated with the PRO/AM are welcome to express interest in hosting an event in either region pending certain requirements are met.

Since there are no more regional series to earn season points in and then get invited to the PRO/AM Championship Event and there are more and more competition series (both amateur and professional) being created daily, we have chosen to try the qualifier format this season. Each division will have "X" number of events and at each of those events, "Y" number of drivers will be invited to attend the PRO/AM Championship Event. The "Y" number is not set in stone and is only an approximation based on driver skill level at any given event, the "Y" number can be increased or decreased based on driver performance. For example, the East Division currently has 7 qualifier events scheduled for 2008. Therefore, we plan to invite roughly 5 drivers from each East Divisional qualifier event to represent the East Division and attend the PRO/AM Championship Event. The West Division will follow the same format and invite roughly the same number of drivers to represent the West Division. If all goes as planned, there should be roughly 70 drivers at the PRO/AM Championship Event (~35 from each Division).

Location:The 2008 PRO/AM Championship Event will be held on October 3-5, 2008 at VIRginia International Raceway on the 1.1 Mile Patriot Course, in Alton, VA in conjunction with GTLive. That's right, it's finally on the East Coast, so no slacking off this year guys (and gals). It's also being held a month prior to SEMA, hopefully that will help any drivers who earn licenses in securing sponsors easier then the past 2 years.

Schedule:The East Division has the following 6 qualifier events scheduled:June 8, 2008 - Old Dominion Speedway, Manassas, VA (USDrift)June 20-21, 2008 - Summit Point Raceway - Main Course - Summit Point, WV (USDrift)July 26, 2008 - VIRginia International Raceway - Patriot Course - Alton, VA (USDrift)July 26, 2008 - Gateway International Raceway - Infield Road Course - St. Louis, MO (ClubFR)August 16, 2008 - USA Iinternational Raceway - Shawano, WI (ClubFR) August 24, 2008 - Summit Point Raceway - Shenandoah Circuit - Summit Point, WV (USDrift)The West Division is still currently being worked out. Their first qualifier event however is:June 28-29, 2008 at Miller Motorsports Park, in Tooele, UT (Drift Association)

USD East Coast Series:All rounds currently scheduled for the 2008 USD season will be qualifier events in addition to the normal series events we always run. Nothing is going to change for drivers trying to win the series in cumulative points at the end of the season. The only difference now is some drivers may not have to compete against drivers competing in the entire series just for an invite to the PRO/AM, as that can be earned at only one event now. Although the 2008 USD season is open to both professional and amateur drivers this year, only amateur drivers will be eligible to earn invitations to the PRO/AM Championship Event. For example, lets say 3 professional and 40 amateur drivers enter Round 1. The first and second place winners are professionals, and the next 4 are amateur and the eighth place is the last professional. The first 4 amateurs will be invited to the the PRO/AM, even though they placed 3-7th in the competition.

The USD season points system will be the same as the last several years. Each 2008 USD competition will award drivers' (both professional and amateur) points based on their performance. At the end of the USD season, a series champion will be determined based on the driver with the most overall points earned this season.

NST Drift Demo at Scion Expo 2008

NST - NonStopTuning was again one of the biggest sponsors of Scion Expo (4th annual 2008) in Houston, Texas. This Scion event is organized by Scion owners, for Scion owners, each year and is one of the biggest scion events in the southern region. Team Scioneyed, the organization behind Scion Expo asked us to provide a drift demo for them and we were happy to provide Will P's NST AE86 Corolla for this demo.

This turbocharged 4AGE Corolla (AE86) is nationally liscenced for competition, carries a full roll cage, fire system/saftey equipment, and packs a punch under the hood! NST Underdrive Pulley Kit, NST Adjustable Cam Gears, and NST Short Shift Kit are some of the many modifications made to this car.

Look for the NST Drift Team at future car shows and motorsports events. We plan to do a few more drift demos during the summer!
